The NMI conducted a consultation during October/November 2020 in relation to the proposed revision of NITP 5.1 – National Instrument Test Procedures for Fuel Dispensers other than LPG Dispensers. The consultation sought feedback on the revised draft which included several key amendments including:
- clarifying requirements for volume standards;
- permitting the use of volume standards constructed from other suitable materials;
- amendment to scope to include ethanol, avgas and diesel exhaust fluid;
- adding the ‘Low Level Cut-off’ test for systems fitted with a low level cut-off device; and
- removing prescriptive safety requirements

Overview
The National Measurement Institute (NMI) has been working to revise NITP 5.1 – National Instrument Test Procedures for Fuel Dispensers other than LPG Dispensers.
The coverage of proposed revisions includes:
- clarifying requirements for volume standards
- permitting the use of volume standards constructed from other suitable materials
- amendment to scope to include ethanol, avgas and diesel exhaust fluid
- adding the ‘Low Level Cut-off’ test for systems fitted with a low level cut-off device
