Overview
The Australian Government is reviewing Australia's measurement laws.
The Measurement Law Review aims to identify aspects of Australia's measurement framework that can be modernised, streamlined or simplified to better meet the needs of a modern economy.
Watch a video from Australia’s Chief Metrologist Dr Bruce Warrington, explaining how we’re shaping the future of Australia’s measurement laws.
Between 2017 and 2020 the Measurement Law Review consulted with stakeholders who interact with the measurement system and sought input on six discussion papers. Each paper examined a specific aspect of Australia’s measurement framework. We looked at:
the scope of Australia’s measurement laws
measurement in everyday life – traceability, measuring instruments and measurement-based transactions
measurement assurance – third party arrangements and compliance arrangements
The feedback from these consultations was used to help inform the development of potential reform options.
