The Nature Repair Market is a national, legislated biodiversity market. It is designed to deliver high-integrity biodiversity outcomes and increase investment in nature.
We undertake a range of consultation activities on key elements of the scheme, including methods. Methods explain how to carry out a project to achieve a certain biodiversity outcome. All methods support projects that enhance and/or protect biodiversity.
We are proposing a Protect and Conserve method. The objective of the method is to support long-term protection and conservation of biodiversity on land across Australia. This will be achieved by supporting projects that protect existing biodiversity values, and/or to improve management of land that is already protected.
The method aims to support projects that contribute to the targets to protect and conserve 30% of Australia’s landmass by 2030 (30 by 30).
Projects under the method will:
establish new, or increase the size of existing, protected and conserved areas on land, and/or
improve biodiversity outcomes for new and existing protected areas by adding or enhancing management activities.
The method complements the existing Replanting Native Forest and Woodland Vegetation method and the proposed Enhancing Native Vegetation Method.
We are seeking feedback on the design of the proposed method. We will consider stakeholder feedback alongside expert advice to prepare a final proposed method.
