We’ve extended this consultation from 20 May to 10 June 2022
Overview
We are consulting on 2 lighting determinations under the Greenhouse and Energy Minimum Standards Act 2012 (GEMS Act) that are due to expire on 1 April 2023:
- Transformers and electronic step-down converters for extra low voltage (ELV) lamps
- Ballasts for fluorescent lamps.
We have reviewed the effectiveness and efficiency of these determinations.
Please let us know if you have comments or data on either of these products that could be used to improve the review. Your feedback will help us decide if the determinations should expire, be renewed unchanged or be revised.
Determinations identified as suitable for revision may undergo a regulation impact statement process.
Sunsetting determinations
It is standard for determinations to expire after they have been in place for 10 years unless a review finds sufficient reason for them to continue. Reviews ensure determinations remain cost effective and still achieve emission reductions.
The E3 Program
The Equipment Energy Efficiency (E3) Program integrates energy efficiency standards and labelling requirements for equipment and appliances. This cross-jurisdictional program is run by:
- the Australian Government
- Australian state and territory governments
- the New Zealand Government.
The GEMS Act 2012 underpins the E3 Program.
