Draft threat abatement plan for ecosystem degradation, habitat loss and species decline due to invasion of northern Australia by introduced gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus), para grass (Urochloa mutica), olive hymenachne (Hymenachne amplexicaulis), mission grass (Cenchrus polystachios) and annual mission grass (Cenchrus pedicellatus).
Overview
We are seeking your feedback on the draft threat abatement plan for ecosystem degradation, habitat loss and species decline due to invasion by introduced grasses. The plan will address introduced gamba grass (Andropogon gayanus), para grass (Urochloa mutica), olive hymenachne (Hymenachne amplexicaulis), mission grass (Cenchrus polystachios) and annual mission grass (Cenchrus pedicellatus).
Threat abatement plans establish a national framework to guide and coordinate Australia’s response to key threats that negatively affect our native species and ecological communities. These plans identify research, management and other actions that all levels of government and other stakeholders can take to ensure the long-term survival of native species and ecological communities. Reducing the impact of these five species of invasive grasses on our native ecosystems will support the recovery of threatened species and ecological communities.
Your feedback will help inform the final version of this threat abatement plan.
