Are the draft recommendations the right way to achieve the objectives?
Girl Geek Academy’s original submission to the Federal Government’s Diversity in STEM review, “Enough Talk: Girl Geek solutions for action & investment in gender equity in STEM / Technology”, surveyed hundreds of technologists across Australia.
The report shared direct accounts from women struggling for recognition, advancement and investment in an industry that has not been designed to retain them. Many shared shocking examples of sexual harassment and discrimination, despite these being a crime in every Australian workplace.
The government must bring industry to the table to implement the draft recommendations of the Diversity in STEM review, and incentivise non-government organisations to work with the government to achieve the desired outcomes.
We the undersigned recommend the Australian federal government require published gender equality action plans from companies who secure government tech contracts.
This recommendation would enable over 1500 companies to instantly help deliver the industry recommendations from the Diversity in STEM review and leverage $16B in government buying power.
