Introduction and overview

Queensland Health delivers genetic healthcare for people of all ages at multiple locations across the state. Genetic health services include clinical assessment, diagnosis testing and genetic counselling. Advances in genetic healthcare along with increased consumer awareness and access to information are sparking a notable surge in demand for genetic health services in many clinical areas. 

Queensland Health's System Planning Branch is exploring options for enhancing genetic health services within Queensland Health. Planning has commenced to develop a sustainable service delivery model to improve equitable and timely access to genetic healthcare across Queensland by:

· leveraging advances in research, innovation, technology

· supporting a connected patient pathway

· providing continuity of care.
