The Nature Repair Market is a national, legislated biodiversity market. It incentivises actions to restore and protect the environment. It encourages land management practices that deliver improved biodiversity outcomes.

The Nature Repair Committee is an independent advisory body. It plays a crucial role in supporting the integrity of the Nature Repair Market.

Methods explain how biodiversity projects must be designed, carried out and measured.

The committee advises the Minister for the Environment and Water (the minister) on methods.

The committee must confirm a method meets the biodiversity integrity standards. Only then can the minister approve the method. The biodiversity integrity standards are set out in the Nature Repair Act 2023. They ensure projects deliver real benefits for biodiversity.

The committee must:

hold a public consultation for at least 28 days before giving advice to the minister
publish their advice on the department’s website
publish all submissions unless it could cause serious harm to Indigenous cultural heritage or biodiversity.

The committee is now consulting on the draft Enhancing Native Vegetation (ENV) method. This method would support projects in Australia's productive and historically cleared areas.

Under the ENV method, projects could:

enhance the condition of remnant vegetation
maintain the condition of moderate to high condition remnant vegetation
revegetate areas without remnant vegetation through environmental planting and/or facilitated regeneration.

The ENV method builds earlier work such as the department-led consultation on the method design in October 2025.

Your feedback will inform the committee’s advice to the minister. This will include whether the method meets the biodiversity integrity standards.
