This World Ocean Day we are launching an art competition to celebrate Australia’s ocean!

Whether you live near the coast or inland, the ocean is important to all Australians. It provides food we eat and the oxygen we breathe, as well as transporting our goods and regulating the climate.

Australia’s ocean jurisdiction is 9 million km² — the third largest ocean jurisdiction in the world. Our ocean estate is larger than our land mass.

The Australian Government is leading the development of a Sustainable Ocean Plan for Australia, which will set a shared long-term vision for our ocean and identify the actions we need to take to sustainably grow our ocean economy and ensure a healthy ocean into the future.

You can find out more information on the sustainable-ocean-plan.

This year we are engaging with state and territory governments, First Nations, industry, non-government organisations, and other community-based groups to develop the plan.

We want to hear what Australians love about the ocean and what we should focus on in the plan.

Send through a photo of your artwork!

We want you to send through a photo of your artwork showing us what you love about Australia’s ocean. This might be in the form of a painting, hand drawn picture, craft project or photograph.

The judges will select one winner from each of the below age groups:

  • 3 – 10

  • 11 – 17

  • 18+

We encourage you to submit entries that are creative, beautiful and celebrate what you love most about our ocean.
