Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) Scheme

When we receive your method idea, it will be ‘protected information’ for the purposes of the Carbon Credits (Carbon Farming Initiative) Act 2011 (Cth) (CFI Act). The CFI Act restricts the use and disclosure of this information, subject to certain exceptions.

One exception, under section 271 of the CFI Act, will enable the department to disclose your method idea.

The department will only disclose your method idea where authorised under the CFI Act. For example, this will be:

• Publishing your method idea on its website.

• Internally to department staff who work on the ACCU scheme.

• Externally to the Emissions Reduction Assurance Committee, and

• To other people or organisations which the department understands are interested in developing or submitting a method idea.

There is no action required on your part to enable these disclosures to take place.

We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles in Schedule 1 of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). The Privacy Act regulates how we may collect, use, disclose and store personal information. We also hold personal information in accordance with the Archives Act 1983 (Cth).

We use technology by Converlens Pty Ltd to provide this consultation service and website. Our contractual arrangements require Converlens to comply with the Privacy Act and store data securely in Australia.

What personal information will be collected

Personal information means information or an opinion about an individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not it is true or recorded in material form.

Sensitive information is a subset of personal information and attracts a higher level of privacy protection. Sensitive information includes information or opinions about an individual's racial or ethnic origin (e.g. indigeneity), a political opinion or association, religious beliefs or affiliations, trade or professional associations and memberships, a criminal record and health information. By submitting a response to this expression of interest, you consent to the department collecting your personal information and sensitive information provided in your response. This may include:

• Your name, address, email and telephone number.

• Your opinions about the method idea and how the method idea may impact you or other members of the community.

• Memberships and associations that are relevant to the development of your idea.

How we will use and disclose your personal information

The department will use any personal information provided in your submission to: · Assess the outcomes and effectiveness of the method idea.

• Assess the potential impact or outcomes of the method idea on you or other members of the community.

• Identify relevant stakeholders and their industry.

• Contact you about your method idea, including for further information, feedback or to conduct a survey either by us or our representative.

• Inform you about the outcomes of this process and/or other matters that we consider may be relevant to you.

The personal information provided in your method idea will be disclosed to third parties for the purpose of allowing interested parties to contact you about your idea and for related purposes.

We may also disclose your personal information where authorised or required by law.
