How you had your say

We sought feedback from you about the draft Ethyl formate fumigation methodology (version 0.2).

Ethyl formate (EF) is being considered by the department for treatment of Brown marmorated stink bug on certain import pathways. A draft methodology has been developed to set out the minimum requirements for these fumigations.

We invited feedback from people across the biosecurity and logistics industry to have their say.

This included:

  • Fumigators and fumigation companies

  • importers, exporters, freight forwarders

  • logistics

  • custom brokers

  • technology and developers or device manufacturers

  • government or regulatory agencies

You gave feedback through:

  • face-to-face information sessions held around Australia

  • an online survey

  • written submissions.

Who engaged

21 responded through our survey.

Responses came from a range of different stakeholders across the biosecurity industry.

What happens next

We will review and consider your feedback. We will use it to help shape the final Ethyl Formate Fumigation Methodology (version 1.0).

We will publish the final version of the methodology on the department’s Methodologies and documents for biosecurity treatments webpage before September 2025.
